15,000+ GAMES 20 EMULATORS 3.5" IPS SCREEN DUAL 3D JOYSTICKS 3500MAH REMOVABLE BATTERY ARKOS · OPEN SOURCE

The Specs. No Hype.

What it's brilliant at, and where it reaches its limits — so you know before you buy, not after.

What It Does Best

Everything up to the PS1 generation. NES, SNES, Game Boy, GBA, Mega Drive and arcade games run beautifully, and most of the PS1 catalogue plays smoothly. The 4:3 IPS screen matches the original shape of these games — no stretching, no black bars — which is exactly why they look better here than on a widescreen handheld.

Where It Reaches Its Limits

N64, Dreamcast and PSP are hit and miss. Some games run well, many don't, and it depends on the title and the emulator settings. We'd rather tell you now than let you find out on day two. If perfect N64 is a must, this isn't the console for you.

The Controls Others Leave Out

Two 3D analogue sticks — not just a d-pad and a couple of shoulder buttons. Most handhelds at this price skip them, yet PS1 and N64 games were built around them. It's the number one reason to pick the R36S over a Miyoo Mini or an RG35XX.

Battery & Storage, Straight Up

The 3500mAh removable battery lasts around four to five hours — more on 8-bit and 16-bit games, less on PS1. And because it's removable, you can swap it out years from now instead of replacing the whole console. Storage is a standard, expandable microSD card.

The Real Reason

The Console You Always Wanted.

Your old consoles are boxed up in the loft, next to cables for a TV you threw out years ago. The emulator on your laptop technically works — but you never open it, because playing Game Boy hunched over a keyboard just isn't the same.

The games were never the problem. What was missing was something the right size, with the right buttons, that slips into your pocket.

Why It Matters Where You Buy

Why Everyone Tries to Copy It.

It's the best-value handheld out there — which is exactly why it gets cloned. Copies look identical in photos and fall apart in your hands: dull screens, SD cards that die, boards that give up within weeks.

That's why every console we send out is checked first: motherboard, screen, and an SD card that's properly flashed and tested. Not glamorous — but with this console, it's the only thing that really matters.

Straight Out of the Box

Turn It On. Start Playing.

The card is loaded and organised, the case is in the box and the battery already has charge. Press the power button and your whole library is waiting, sorted by console.

No downloads, no accounts, no firmware to install first. Want to add your own games or tweak emulator settings later? ArkOS makes it easy and the community is huge. But you don't need any of that to start.

The Gift They'll Actually Use

The Present That Steals an Hour.

Most gifts get unwrapped, admired and put to one side. This one gets switched on straight away — and whoever opened it quietly disappears from the conversation for a while.

Birthdays, Christmas, Father's Day. Every game from their childhood, back in their hands before the wrapping paper hits the floor.

What is the R36S?

The R36S is a pocket-sized retro handheld that plays classic games from consoles like the NES, SNES, Game Boy, GBA, Sega Mega Drive and PlayStation 1. It has a 3.5-inch IPS screen, dual analogue sticks, real physical buttons and runs ArkOS, a Linux-based system. It comes with thousands of preloaded games, making it one of the most affordable ways to play the classics at home or on the move. Some N64 and PSP games run too, but performance varies from game to game.

How do I know I'm getting a genuine R36S and not a fake?

Clones are the biggest issue with this console — copied boards, washed-out screens and SD cards that fail within days. Every console we sell is checked before it ships: genuine motherboard, screen test, and a properly flashed and verified SD card. Comparing sellers? Three quick checks: ask for a photo of the motherboard through the battery compartment, be wary of any listing that claims built-in Bluetooth or Wi-Fi (a genuine R36S has neither), and treat a price far below everyone else's as a red flag, not a bargain.

How long does delivery take?

We process orders within 2–3 business days and every parcel is tracked. UK, US and EU orders usually arrive in 5–7 business days; the rest of the world in 7–14. You'll get a tracking link by email as soon as your parcel leaves us. If it looks stuck, email us your order number and we'll chase it for you.

What's included in the box?

The console, a preloaded microSD card, a USB-C charging cable and a protective carry case. That's everything — nothing else to buy, nothing to download. The battery arrives with some charge so you can play right away.

What games can the R36S play?

Around 20 systems, including NES, SNES, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, Mega Drive, Master System, Neo Geo, PlayStation 1 and a big arcade collection. Games are sorted by console, so you browse instead of searching.

Is the R36S worth buying?

For anything up to the PS1 era, it's the best-value handheld you can buy — ask anyone who owns a few. You get dual analogue sticks and a true 4:3 IPS screen at a price where most rivals give you a d-pad and a stretched widescreen. Where it's not worth it: if you need flawless N64, Dreamcast or PSP, go for something more powerful. We'd rather say so than take your money.

Can you add more games to the R36S?

Yes. It uses a standard microSD card, so you can add files to the current card or upgrade to a bigger one. ArkOS has one simple folder per console, which makes adding and organising games easy, and there are loads of community guides if you want to go further. Please only add games you're legally entitled to own.

My screen is black when I turn it on — is it broken?

Almost certainly not. A black screen on the R36S is nearly always an SD card that's corrupted or not seated properly. Take the card out of the side slot, push it back in firmly and restart. If the console hasn't been used for a while, charge it for 30 minutes and try again. Still stuck? Contact us and we'll walk you through it — or send you a replacement card for free.

What is the R36S battery life?

Around four to five hours of real play, depending on the game — longer on 8-bit and 16-bit titles, shorter on PS1 and heavier games. Screen brightness makes a difference too. The 3500mAh battery is removable, which matters more than you'd think: when it eventually wears out, you replace the battery, not the console.

Does the R36S have Bluetooth?

Not built in — and no genuine R36S does. It has a USB OTG port, so you can plug in a Bluetooth or Wi-Fi dongle for wireless controllers or headphones. Handy authenticity tip: if a seller claims built-in Bluetooth on an R36S, it's almost certainly not a real one.

What is the R36S screen size and quality?

A 3.5-inch IPS panel, 640×480, in 4:3. That 4:3 shape is the whole point — it's the original format of almost every retro game, so nothing gets stretched, squashed or boxed in like on a widescreen handheld. IPS keeps the colours accurate even at an angle. A dull or heavily tinted screen is one of the clearest signs of a clone.

How does the R36S compare to other retro handhelds?

Versus the Miyoo Mini: the R36S gives you dual analogue sticks and a bigger screen — a big deal for PS1 and 3D games. Versus the RG35XX: usually cheaper for a similar experience. Versus devices costing three or four times more: you give up N64, Dreamcast and PSP performance. If you mostly play 8-bit to PS1 — and most people do — the R36S does the job for a fraction of the price.

What if my console arrives faulty?

We'll replace it or refund you in full. Just contact us before sending anything back — a black screen is nearly always the SD card and we can usually sort it the same day, without you posting a thing. Every order also comes with a 30-day return if you simply change your mind. Email pixelcade.support@gmail.com with your order number and a quick description, and we'll take care of it. No interrogation, no hoops.
